POSTED LEAD ROLES
07/20/07 01:02 Filed in: NECROSIS
We posted some of the lead roles in the BREAKDOWNS
today. Already we are receiving THOUSANDS of
submissions!
Here are the roles we posted:
MATT:
Mid 20s to early 30s. Any ethnicity. A man who has enviable good looks, but with the demeanor of one who doesn't flaunt it or even acknowledge it. More shy and low-key than expected, he finds himself drawn to Megan, the other "5th wheel" on this trip. As the situation in the cabin turns to horror, they are drawn together, not only because of an attraction, but a desperate need for survival. LEAD. SEEKING RECOGNIZABLE / STAR NAMES. RATE NEGOTIABLE.
MEGAN:
Mid 20s to early 30s. Any ethnicity. Beautiful and sexy, but more comfortable in sweatpants and a baseball cap. A tom-boy at heart, she doesn't mind getting her hands dirty and her hair messed up. She finds herself attracted to Matt, but unimpressed with his weak attempts at flirting. She enjoys playing with him good-naturedly, making him work harder at impressing her. When the storm hits and traps them, she begins to reveal vulnerability, opening up to Matt as they struggle to save themselves. When the situation in the cabin goes from bad to worse, she steps up to the plate and takes on the mentally-unstable Jerry and ultimately saves the day. LEAD. SEEKING RECOGNIZABLE / STAR NAME. RATE NEGOTIABLE.
JERRY:
Mid 20s to early 30s. Any ethnicity. A quirky, odd guy with serious manic-depressive issues. Not really fitting in with the group, and not wanting to be on this trip, he begrudgingly goes through to motions and puts on his best smile for the sake of his girlfriend, Samantha. As the storm intensifies, and their situation grows more desperate, Jerry finds that the "entity" tormenting the group seems to be singling him out, driving his already delicate mental stability to the brink, until he loses all sense of reality and turns into a shotgun-wielding madman hell-bent on a path of death and destruction. LEAD. SEEKING RECOGNIZABLE / STAR NAMES. RATE NEGOTIABLE.

Necrosis Screenplay

Ever seen a movie.....action or horror or whatever
that was shot on a lower budget.....but the
filmmakers tried to put elements in that the studio
pictures put in and couldn't quite pull it
off....hell couldn't pull it off AT ALL??? Well, we
didn't want to make those mistakes. So we backed off.
Writers really don't like to limit their creativity
by constantly thinking of cost while putting pen to
paper. But thats really what you gotta do. So we did
it.
After a couple of drafts, we got professional script coverage at Newline Cinema. OUCH! The readers there really don't hold back. My brother, who works for Newline and writes, tells me the readers are really writers that just didn't make it. So everything they read they are pretty bitter about it, thinking about their own unsuccessful attempts at the Big Time.
Armed with our coverage, which pointed out several flaws, story problems, a lack of character development, etc....... we started our re-writes. And then we rewrote it again and again. Trying to add to the story without adding to the budget. We worked on our characters, developed some back stories, worked on character arches......and then we gave it to more readers and did it again.
I'd guess we have done in the neighborhood of 20 major rewrites and hundreds of simple fixes to the script. We still change it to this day and well probably change it on location, while filming.
We had to (well didn't HAVE to) change the name of the film, when we went to register it to start production. We hold copyrights and WGA registration as DEAD OF WINTER, but another film went into production with the same title 2 weeks before we did ours!
We just couldn't have two films coming out at the same time with the same name!
So we started racking our brains on a title.
When I asked a medical professional what the name of the dead tissue caused by frost bite was, she told me there wasn't really a "name" for it but said it's NECROTIC..... or "Dead Tissue". We liked the sound of that.......Necrotic......but it was a little too close to EROTIC...... and it's not that kind of flick. We did the variations and there it was born.....NECROSIS.
Now for those of you that don't know. Necrotic tissue can be caused by many things....not just frost bite. Some of the other causes are poisons, like the bite from a Brown Recluse Spider, lack of blood to a limb from a traumatic injury, etc. But we'll stick with the frost bite version.......because thats what's going on in NECROSIS!
So thats a little bit about how our screenplay developed.
